Ruby Hirakawa is living proof that life doesn’t have to be boring just because you’re retired. In fact, it’s hard to find an opening in her busy schedule. A resident of Friendship Village, Ruby can be found at the fitness center four days a week. She enjoys yoga, swimming and working out.
When she’s not breaking a sweat, she’s giving back. Ruby volunteers at a local church putting food together for the less fortunate. She also donates her time at a nearby elementary school helping second graders learn to read and write. And a few years ago, Ruby even celebrated her birthday by skydiving on a trip to Hawaii!
"When I wake up in the morning and open my drapes, I say, 'Thank you Lord for bringing me here.' Because I don’t have to worry, my children don’t have to worry about me, and it’s just a beautiful place to be – and I’m happy to be here."
